ARRI partnership puts cinema cameras at the center
The biggest story of the Magic9 series is its imaging system, co-developed with German cinema-camera maker ARRI. The company has confirmed a dual-200MP rear setup: a 200MP main sensor (1/1.28-inch, f/1.57) and a 200MP telephoto (1/1.4-inch, f/2.6). Honor is bringing professional filmmaking color science to phones with native ARRI LogC3 encoding, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks presets that let users apply cinematic color styles while shooting.
Honor has also introduced a Photography Master Kit with two telephoto extenders, including a 500mm teleconverter and a thumb-sized 200mm extender measuring just 81mm and weighing 88g. The teasers show a large rectangular camera module with three cutouts, an LED flash and the ARRI logo, in a new Moss Green colorway.
Three models with bigger batteries
The lineup is expected to include the standard Magic9, the Magic9 Pro Max and a Magic9 Super Edition. Leaker Digital Chat Station reports the Magic9 will pack a 6.37-inch 1.5K 120Hz flat display, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and an 8,000mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. A 55MP square-format selfie camera would make it among the first Android phones with a square front sensor.
The Magic9 Pro Max is tipped to step up to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 with an 8,800mAh battery, while the Super Edition could headline the family with an 11,000mAh cell and active fan cooling in an 8.1mm, 227g body. Honor will ship the series with MagicOS 11, its latest Android skin.
