Elon Musk is a trillionaire again. The fortune of the world's richest person jumped by $65 billion on Monday to $1.04 trillion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, as the value of his stakes in SpaceX and Tesla rose.
It marks the first time in three months that Musk's fortune has crossed the $1 trillion mark. SpaceX shares are up 13 percent since the start of October, while Tesla has gained 6.7 percent, restoring a milestone he first claimed in June.
SpaceX rally powers the rebound
The latest gains were fueled by renewed optimism at both companies. On Monday, analysts at Morgan Stanley called SpaceX one of the cheapest ways to play "the strong optionality" of the space and intelligence sector, adding momentum to a rally that has seen the company's shares rebound 58 percent from an August low.
SpaceX stock also got a lift from the first successful orbital trip of its Starship rocket the previous week, while Tesla reported better-than-expected third-quarter vehicle deliveries, reinforcing investor confidence in both businesses.
A crown first claimed in June
Musk became the world's first trillionaire in June, when SpaceX surged in the wake of its record-breaking initial public offering — the largest in history, generating $75 billion in proceeds and surpassing Saudi Aramco's 2019 listing.
But he lost that crown within days as SpaceX and Tesla shares slumped on concerns about the company's sky-high valuation. By late July, his wealth decline of more than $600 billion from its peak exceeded the net worth of anyone who had ever appeared on Bloomberg's list of the world's 500 richest people — other than Musk himself.
How the fortune stacks up
According to Bloomberg's wealth index, Musk's stakes in SpaceX and Tesla make up more than 98 percent of his net worth, leaving his fortune tightly tied to the two companies' market performance. He controls approximately 82.4 percent of voting power in SpaceX after the offering.
Separate figures from Forbes put Monday's single-session gain at about $30.6 billion, lifting his fortune to roughly $1 trillion — more than $628 billion ahead of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, whose net worth stands at an estimated $371.5 billion.
Whether Musk holds the thirteen-figure title this time will depend on market momentum. With Tesla heading toward year-end sales targets and SpaceX ramping up its Starship launch cadence, the two engines of his fortune remain firmly in investors' sights.
