Anthropic is making one of the largest AI infrastructure commitments yet, with plans to spend approximately $45 billion over six years to rent computing capacity from UK-based AI infrastructure provider Nscale.
The deal would give Anthropic access to around 460 megawatts of AI computing capacity at Nscale’s flagship data center campus in West Virginia. The infrastructure is expected to use NVIDIA’s next-generation Vera Rubin systems, with capacity beginning to come online in late 2027.
The enormous investment reflects Anthropic’s race to secure enough computing power to train advanced AI models and handle rapidly growing demand for products such as Claude and Claude Code.
Anthropic has been aggressively expanding its infrastructure through multiple major partnerships. It has previously announced compute agreements involving Amazon, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA and SpaceX as competition with OpenAI and other AI companies intensifies.
The $45 billion Nscale agreement is especially significant because Anthropic would be renting computing capacity rather than purchasing the data center itself, allowing the company to dramatically scale its AI operations without directly owning all of the underlying infrastructure.
The investment also arrives as Anthropic reportedly prepares for a potential IPO and expects enormous future demand for its AI products. Reuters reports the company is targeting annualized revenue of around $190 billion to $200 billion by 2028.
Anthropic has declined to comment publicly on the reported Nscale agreement, so the deal should currently be described as reported rather than officially announced by Anthropic.
