Acer has officially entered a new laptop category. The Taiwanese PC maker debuted the Acer Googlebook 14 on Thursday, its first device in Google's new Googlebook lineup — a family of premium AI laptops built around Gemini Intelligence and the new Googlebook OS.
The Googlebook 14 is being billed as the industry's first convertible Googlebook. It pairs a 360-degree hinge with high-end hardware and deep Android integration, positioning it as a bridge between Chromebooks and full Windows laptops. Acer says its 15 years of leadership in the Chromebook market give it a head start on the new category.

Gemini Intelligence at the center

Unlike Chromebooks, which run ChromeOS and focus on web-centric workloads, Googlebooks run Googlebook OS — a new system built around Gemini that supports local applications, Android app casting, and hardware-accelerated AI features.

Two features underline the phone-first approach. "Continue On" lets users start a task on an Android phone and pick it up on the laptop, while "Cast My Apps" brings Android phone apps onto the laptop screen without installing anything. Context-aware actions offer proactive suggestions based on what is on screen.
Acer is also bundling 12 months of Google AI Pro with every unit, unlocking expanded access to Gemini along with 5TB of cloud storage for files and photos.

Premium hardware, 16-hour battery

Under the hood sits up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 355 processor with a dedicated NPU rated at 50 TOPS for AI workloads, paired with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 512GB of PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage. Acer rates the 71Wh battery at up to 16 hours of web browsing, with fast charging on board.
The 14-inch 3K OLED touchscreen (2880 x 1800, 16:10) hits 500 nits of brightness, supports finger and USI 2.0 stylus input, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The aluminum-magnesium chassis measures 13.9mm thin and weighs 1.14kg, and a "Glowbar" on the lid shifts color and pattern to signal battery and charging status.
Connectivity includes Intel Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, a Thunderbolt 4 port, and dual USB Type-C ports, alongside a 5MP webcam with a physical privacy shutter, triple microphones, a fingerprint reader built into the power button, and Google's Titan-C security chip.

A new category — and a pricing question

The Googlebook 14 goes on sale starting in October in the United States and Europe, priced at $899 in the US and €1199 in Europe, according to KitGuru. Exact configurations and local pricing will vary by market.
"The new Acer Googlebook 14 puts intuitive and powerful tools with Gemini Intelligence at the fingertips of anyone wanting to boost their creativity and productivity," said James Lin, Acer's general manager for notebooks. "As a long-standing leader in Chromebooks since their inception 15 years ago, Acer is thrilled to continue our alliance with Google to launch this brand-new category of premium, AI-ready laptops."
The open question is whether Googlebooks can carve out a third space between Chromebooks and Windows laptops — or simply become the new premium end of the Chromebook world. Acer is betting that its head start in Chromebooks will be enough.
